Beautiful weather served as the backdrop for what would become my last set of “race weekend” paintings for the year. The first one started with a bit of a misfire, as I realized partway through that I’d left all the colors too saturated, with no great way of recovering the palette.

That second attempt got a bit of a weird texture to it; I was having trouble differentiating the trees in my sight, let alone on the paper. But at least I managed to find a saturation level that felt a little less garish.

The following day, I got another opportunity to sit with my paints for an hour or so.

The clouds that day were absolutely picturesque. I wish I had the skill to depict them as majestically as they appeared.

…But I’m happy enough to have the time to give it a shot. 🙂
