This weekend my local sketchbook group met close enough to my home that I was able to bike into the meet! Perfect timing with a crisp morning as we transition into fall.

Clear blue skies made the complimentary red-orange brick of these buildings even more striking than usual.

I had to leave an hour early and wasn’t able to finish my sketch (I had intended to add lines), but the colors I was able to lay down felt like a good start. I have a persistent habit of biting off more than I can chew in these short drawing sessions… both the overall composition and the little details on the scene draw me in, and I can’t decide which I want to focus on, so both aspects suffer 😅 Ah, well.

It was a beautiful crisp morning regardless, and I greatly enjoyed the company of other sketchers, who shared some tips for improving my sketching practice. I’m looking forward to trying out some new techniques, so stay tuned to see how it goes 🙂
