Market produce

With the farmer’s market as today’s sketching location, I knew it would be pretty ambitious to capture so much activity in gouache alone, so I brought a fountain pen and a cheap portable watercolor palette instead. I relied on ink lines to capture shapes quickly so that I would have time to drop some color in on the produce. While our group was drawing, the owner of the farm stand stopped by to chat and admire our drawings. He walked away with a couple artworks. 🙂

Sometimes people are overly apologetic about “interrupting” me while I’m out sketching in public. There’s truly no need; I love when people stop to chat!
